Overview History & Special Features: From Lake House to Signature Collection

The current Seehotel Frankenhorst stands in a tradition that has shaped the place for decades: As early as 1920, buildings existed on the shores of Lake Ziegelsee, laying the foundation for later hotel use; since then, the facility has been expanded and modernized several times. This development is reflected in the current structure with several guest houses in the park – an ensemble that combines historical elements with contemporary hospitality. An important milestone was the brand change within the BWH hotel group: The house is now branded as BW Signature Collection by Best Western, which aims for individuality and regional anchoring while maintaining the brand's quality standards. As part of recent modernizations, the wellness and beauty area has been expanded and redesigned; among other things, the distinctive lakeside sauna has been added, giving the house a special accent. The library “Hans Franck” with a fireplace and the restaurant Haubentaucher with a winter garden and terraces represent the atmosphere where nature connection and cozy comfort come together. For companies, the Seehotel has established itself as a retreat for creative meetings, strategy retreats, and team events – favored by the quiet location, greenery, and the ability to rhythmically combine work blocks with short walks or a round on the lake. For leisure guests, direct lake access is a central argument, complemented by bicycle tours through the lake landscape and excursions to the city center with its castle, museums, and theaters. Accessibility remains comfortable: free parking at the house, bus line 8 from the main station towards Seehof, short distances to the A14, and – for long-distance travelers – connections to larger airports in Hamburg or Rostock-Laage. Thus, the Seehotel Frankenhorst is today a hideaway with a personal touch: intimate, nature-connected, with a wellness focus – yet well-connected.

A beautiful hotel on the lake. Great atmosphere just outside of Schwerin. Restaurant food and service are surely worth the drive.

Location is very nice, except you need a car to get anywhere. And our room was not made/cleaned when we arrived, and when we went to complain, the receptionist didn’t know english. I know you can’t complain about a non-english person not speaking english, but when you work at a hotel you need to at least understand a little imo.

Unfortunately a very disappointing experience with this hotel: 1. No shuttle service from the bus stop - even though mentioned online - and no pedestrian walk. 2. Breakfast buffet neither enjoyable, nor fresh, nor sufficient. 3. You can only have breakfast at 7:00, 8:00 or 9:30 and only if you registered for a specific time window the night before. If you register for 7:00 and come at 7:30 - you will be asked to leave at 7:45 because the tables must be prepared for the guests at 8:00. If you register for 9:30 - you will be eating poor leftovers. There are also tables on the terrace that would allow more flexibility with the breakfast times, but again - not allowed to have breakfast there. 4. 90% of the Spa facilities are out of order. 5. Rust and mold in the swimming pool. All in all the hotel is overpriced and outdated.

Bugs all over the room. Had to leave at 22.30 and drive via Scandilines to Røby and further to Norway same night and morning after. Totally 1430 km. Best bed ever back home.
