Eutin 08 is definitively relegated – SHFV rejects urgent application

For Eutin 08, the relegation issue has been decided: The executive board of the Schleswig-Holstein Football Association (SHFV) has rejected the club's urgent application for an expansion or subsequent admission to the Flens-Oberliga for the 2026/27 season. This means that Eutin 08 will have to compete in the Oberliga next season.

After what the club described as a "bizarre" and "unfortunate" end to the season, Eutin 08 tried to achieve a sports-political solution at the association level. The application aimed to correct the league affiliation once again despite the decisive constellation at the end of the season. With the SHFV's decision, this path is now blocked.

SHFV: No "right of mercy" – and no access to files

The association not only rejected the application for admission to the Flens-Oberliga, but also an application for access to files. The SHFV justified this by stating that proceeding via a right of mercy according to § 66 of the Rules and Procedures was not an option. In addition, the association clarified that the underlying issue was not a sanction, but a match revaluation.

Regarding access to files, the SHFV also saw no legal interest according to its own account: The relevant procedure concerned a match eligibility in which no Eutin 08 team was involved.

Background: Revaluation with consequences for the course of the season

The explosive aspect of the situation is that a match revaluation – even without a direct "penalty" against Eutin 08 – can indirectly influence the course of the season and thus the league standings. According to the SHFV, the evaluation was related to the match 1. FC Phönix Lübeck II against MTSV Hohenwestedt (April 29, 2026). It is precisely such chain reactions that clubs often find particularly difficult to convey at the end of the season: On paper, their own club remains uninvolved, but in sporting terms, the starting position can still shift decisively.

For Eutin 08 – a traditional club from Ostholstein – the decision above all means clarity for planning. However, the sporting outcome remains bitter: The attempt to retroactively change the league affiliation at the association level has failed. Relegation to the Oberliga is now final.
